Waco roots, Texas values, Justice Done Right.
I’m Barrett Thomas—a conservative, faith-driven, fifth-generation Wacoan running for Judge of the 74th District Court in McLennan County, Texas. As a father raising my children here, a former police officer with a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and an experienced family law attorney since 2010, I have dedicated my career to protecting children and families in our courts. I founded Lighthouse Legal Services, PLLC, an award-winning firm known across Texas for fighting for the vulnerable in civil courts. McLennan County deserves a court fully focused on the best interests of families and children, and I am committed to serving with fairness, integrity, and principled leadership for Central Texas.
Professionally, Barrett brings nearly two decades of legal and law enforcement experience to his community. He has served as a police officer, prosecutor, and attorney, gaining firsthand insight into the challenges families face when they enter the courtroom. Today, as Founding Partner of Lighthouse Legal Services, he has built a respected practice recognized across Texas for fairness, integrity, and compassionate advocacy. His career, combined with his deep love for family and community, is what drives him to run for District Judge — to ensure McLennan County families are treated with the dignity and justice they deserve.keeping them first has always shaped the way he approaches life and service.
Barrett Thomas is a fifth-generation Wacoan whose roots in McLennan County run deep. He is a devoted husband to Charla, the Assistant City Attorney for Temple, and together they are raising four children — twin sons Will and Aaron, and daughters Adellyn and Lauren. With Will recently married and both sons now grown, Barrett cherishes the chance to guide and support his daughters as they continue through school. His family is his greatest pride, and keeping them first has always shaped the way he approaches life and service.
Barrett Thomas has built his career on service, integrity, and a deep respect for the law. He began his work in the justice system as a correctional officer and police officer, later serving as Chief of Police in Anson. Those early years gave him a firsthand understanding of how the law impacts families and communities. After earning his law degree from Texas Tech University, Barrett became an Assistant District Attorney, prosecuting cases and standing with victims in their pursuit of justice. For the past decade, he has led Lighthouse Legal Services as its Founding Partner, guiding families through some of their most difficult times and earning recognition as a SuperLawyers honoree from 2017–2025. Beyond the courtroom, Barrett has dedicated himself to teaching, mentoring, and volunteering — from training new police officers in ethics and courtroom demeanor, to serving on boards that protect victims and children. His career reflects not just experience, but a calling: to serve people with fairness, compassion, and strength.
Barrett’s greatest joy comes from the life he shares with his wife, Charla, the Assistant City Attorney for Temple. Together they’ve raised four children who are the center of their world — twin sons Will and Aaron, and daughters Adellyn and Lauren. With Will recently married and both sons grown and out of the home, Barrett treasures watching them build lives of their own while still being present every day for Adellyn and Lauren. He often says that no matter what title he’s earned in his career, “Dad” will always be the one that means the most. His deep love for his family is what grounds him and fuels his commitment to serving families in McLennan County with fairness, compassion, and integrity.
